Dr Amrish Krishnan, Fiji’s only Specialist Nephrologist, was ecstatic over the announcement of his appointment to head the new National Kidney Research and Treatment Centre.
Minister for Economy and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in announcing the allocation of $1million for the construction of the centre, said Dr Krishnan would be in charge of the centre.
Apart from this, Government also announced an allocation of $300,000 for kidney dialysis treatment for Fijians.
“This is really good and will in fact benefit a lot of ordinary Fijians who could not afford dialysis,” Dr Krishnan said.
The Centre will act as a national hub for treatment and prevention of kidney diseases and provide patients with the most economical access to treatment of kidney disease.
“It is good news for those who could not afford it.”
“I am humbled at being appointed to man the centre.”
Dr Krishnan thanked Government for the allocation as this would help those kidney patients which he personally, had been raising funds for the payment of their dialysis.
